UALR’s Department of Rhetoric and Writing and the Little Rock Writing Project invite the community to campus to tell their “literacy stories” from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, in Room 112 of Student Union-B, just west of the Donaghey Student Center.

The stories will become a part of the Digital Archive of Literacy Narrative Projects at Ohio State University, the first national archive that traces both digital and non-digital literacy practices over time.

This is the second year that the Department of Rhetoric and Writing has hosted the event. Last year, the department collected more than 80 literacy narratives for the archive.

“It’s fun to reflect on your literacy story,” said Sally Crisp of the Department of Rhetoric and Writing. “You can share your memories about the people in your life who helped you learn to read and how you developed as a reader and a writer. We want to know how your lifelong passion for reading and writing began.”

The archive will become invaluable resources for historical, cultural, and educational records.

Participants in the literacy narrative project will be able to tell their stories on video, or on audio, or choose to upload a text from a flash drive. “We also encourage people to bring related literacy artifacts such as photographs, poems, home videos, or other texts that inspired their reading,” Crisp said. “Every time we pick up a book or sit down to write, we can recall the people who helped us along the way.”
