Hicks Honored as ‘Designing Woman’

UALR associate professor of costume design, Yslan Hicks, has been selected as one of three honorees for “Designing Women,” a benefit for the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas (WFA).

The gala will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. Admission is $50, which includes drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

Hicks has been lauded for her design work in such significant venues as the Old Globe Theatre, the Goodman Theatre Center, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Portland Center Stage, and the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. In addition to her work at UALR, Hicks has served on the faculties of Tulane University and the University of Tulsa. She is also a member of United Scenic Artists, Local 829.

Proceeds for “Designing Women” will support grants for programs to promote philanthropy among women to help women and girls achieve their full potential.

Other honorees include graphic designer, Nancy Ferrara of CJRW advertising firm, and photographer Cindy Momchilov of Camera Work.

The event will include a design marketplace with works by Jamileh Kamran Designs, Bella Vita Handmade Jewelry, Kate Bear Fossils, and LCB Lacquer.
