Vanessa Young, a recent graduate of UALR’s masters program in biology, will see her research on the capacity for physiological adjustment of salamanders published in the international Journal of Comparative Physiology, Part B.

The research, conducted under the supervision of UALR Biology Professor Matthew Gifford, tests whether stream salamanders can adjust their physiological capacities to variation in temperature. Her work tests predictions of mathematical models designed to examine the conditions under which species should or should not have developed the capacity for physiological adjustment.

The research appears on the Online First section of the journal and will be published in print in early 2013.

Young enrolled in UALR’s graduate school after completing a B.S. in biology at Erskine College in South Carolina. While at UALR, she received two awards, the Rickett Award for Outstanding Graduate Student from the Department of Biology and the Outstanding Graduate Student in the College of Science and Mathematics.

She is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in biology at Clemson University.
