Orchestra to present annual spring concert
The UALR Department of Music will present the 15th Annual Spring Concert of the Community Orchestra at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 12, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building.
The event is free and open to the public.
The 45-member UALR Community Orchestra, under the direction of associate professor of music Victor Ellsworth, will perform works by Shostakovich, Bizet, Milhaud, Stravinsky, and an original composition of Dr. Wallace De Pue Sr.
De Pue, professor emeritus of composition at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, wrote his original composition “Prelude and a Dorian Dance” for orchestra.
The Milhaud piece, “Scaramouche,” is a three-movement concerto for alto saxophone and orchestra. It will feature UALR’s Andy Wen, associate professor of music, as soloist.
