Anson receives favorable reviews for work on Alexander the Great
A book authored by a professor of history and current interim chair of the UALR Department of Mathematics and Statistics has received a favorable review in the New York Review of Books.
Dr. Edward M. Anson’s book, Alexander’s Heirs: The Age of the Successors, was published in July 2014 by Wiley-Blackwell. It is a narrative account of the 40-year period in which Alexander the Great’s generals vied for control of his vast empire.
The book was favorably reviewed by Peter Green, Dougherty Centennial Professor Emeritus of Classics at the University of Texas, in the March 5 edition.
Green states the book “… manages throughout to combine high scholarship with compulsive readability.”
Dr. Waldemar Heckel, professor of history at the University of Calgary in Canada, has also praised the work, calling it “a concise but thoroughly documented study of the formative years (323-281 BCE) of the Hellenistic Age by an insightful and highly respected scholar.”
Heckel recommends the book as “an indispensable and infallible guide to one of the most complex and exciting periods of ancient history.”
Anson has authored an exceptional number of publications during his time at UALR, including seven books, more than 30 articles in high profile journals, 15 book chapters, and more than 50 encyclopedia entries.
Anson completed his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia.
