UALR launches UALR Online

Flat-tuition rates, a military-targeted degree, and more student support services for online learners are among new offerings the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has slated for fall.

The launch of UALR Online includes fully online degree programs that are accredited, and classes are taught by full-time UALR faculty.

“As a metropolitan university, UALR has a long tradition of making higher education more accessible for Arkansans of various backgrounds,” said Dr. Sherry Rankins- Robertson, vice chancellor for academic affairs in student success and online education. “We aim to increase the number of college-educated Arkansans by offering new online academic initiatives that may be more attractive to students who desire a greater selection of courses, reduced tuition, and accessible student services in the pursuit of a college degree.”

Recognizing that many students require more flexibility with their schedules — whether it’s to maintain responsibilities to their families or employers or to avoid longer commute times — the university has been working toward alternative e-Learning solutions to meet the needs of people seeking to obtain a degree.

UALR’s location in the capital city provides an extensive network of professional resources that make the institution a particularly attractive option for adult learners, military students, and working professionals. These students often benefit the most from online programs.

The university has offered online courses since 1998. Dating back over a decade, UALR has been the state’s pioneer and leader in online education. Currently, UALR offers more than 450 different courses with 11 fully online programs.

These programs include Master of Education in Reading; Master of Science in Criminal Justice; Master of Education in Learning Systems Technology; Bachelor of Science in Health Education and Promotion; Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies; Bachelor of Business Administration in Management; Bachelor of Applied Science; Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication; Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN completion); and Bachelor of Business Administration in Management (emphasis in Human Resource).

Flat tuition rates

Beginning in the fall of 2015, UALR is introducing a new reduced per credit hour, or flat-rate tuition, for students enrolled in any of the 11 fully online programs. The flat rates are $260 per credit hour for undergraduate courses and $370 per credit hour for graduate courses.

Military-targeted degrees

As a designated military-friendly institution, UALR will continue to offer its current discounted rates for military students regardless of method of course delivery. Additionally, all military students will continue to receive the waived application fee. UALR has recently introduced the Bachelor of Applied Science, which accepts 40 hours of military training credit toward the 120-credit hour degree program.

Specialized Student Support

Online students have specific needs, especially when it comes to navigating the university. With its interactive website and team of online support specialists, UALR Onlineprovides a hub of information regarding fully online degrees, online enrollment processes, web-based courses, and various campus resources.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, is a member of the Southern Regional Education Board and is designated as a doctoral/research university by the Carnegie Foundation.
