Little Rock Trojans win community service award
The Little Rock Trojans are the winners of the Sun Belt Conference Community Service Award for the month of September, the league office announced Thursday.
Throughout September, Little Rock student-athletes earned a total of 2,065 points as they amassed more than 600 hours of community service. Some of the highlights for the Trojans’ community service program included collecting more than 150 hygiene products for donation, hosting a pancake breakfast for the Boys and Girls Club, and organizing a canned food drive.
The Trojans also helped with move-in day at the university dorms, assisted with the Arkansas Dream Center, and volunteered with Our House of Little Rock, among many other volunteer efforts.
The Sun Belt Conference Community Service Initiative is a year-long competition between the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) programs on each campus. The program is designed to encourage student-athletes to take a continuous role in community service throughout the academic year. Points for the award are based on service activities, donations, and time committed toward community service projects.
Each month, the institution with the highest point total is named the monthly champion. The institution that wins the most months during the academic year will be named the Sun Belt Conference Community Service Award Winner for the year.
