Ballet Arkansas will give a one-night only performance Saturday, Aug. 20, at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock featuring four talented, emerging choreographers competing to have their work showcased in a stage production with Ballet Arkansas.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the UALR Center for Performing Arts University Theatre.

“VISIONS: A Choreographic Competition” was developed by Ballet Arkansas Artistic Director Michael Bearden, who wanted to give choreographers an opportunity to showcase their work on stage.

The competition will feature the work of choreographers Caroline MacDonald, McCree O’Kelley, Jimmy Orrante, and Sanjay Saverimuttu.

Emerging choreographers from around the country competed for four spots in the VISIONS competition. Three professionals in the dance community will judge the performances. Audience members will also vote for their favorite performance.

The winner will receive a contract with Ballet Arkansas to expand his or her choreography and have it produced for a performance in Ballet Arkansas’ spring 2017 mixed repertory show. The winner’s performance will be shown April 28 through 30, 2017, at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre.

Tickets are $40 for general admission and $30 for students, seniors, and members of the military.

To purchase tickets, visit the Ballet Arkansas website or call 501.223.5150.
