While pursuing his doctorate in higher education learning at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Shaun Clark was recognized by his peers for his work ethic and dedication to his craft.

During the Annual Arkansas Community Colleges Conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Clark was awarded the 2016 University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Outstanding Staff Award on Oct. 10

“I remember sitting there during the luncheon hearing the description of the winner being read, and it never once crossed my mind that it was referring to me until the very end,” Clark said. “I don’t know who nominated me, but I felt very happy and I was humbled to know that my local work community felt so highly about me.”

As the director of industry outreach and continuing education at the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana, Clark is constantly shining his light on students and faculty.

“I’ve always been raised by my parents to be the best that I can be at whatever it is that I’m doing,” Clark said. “They’ve always taught me that if you give your all and give back to your community and those that you work around or with, you’re more than likely going to get that back in return.”

Although he’s breaking barriers in his field, Clark never foresaw a future in higher education. After receiving his Bachelor of Science from Arkansas State University, he believed that his journey would lead him to a career in human resources. He eventually landed a role at Cossatot Community College, and the rest was history.

“I have a goal of becoming a president or chancellor of a community college or university one day, which is why I set out to pursue this degree,” Clark said. “The primary thing that I want people to understand is that you can make a difference, no matter how small or how big. You can make a positive difference.”
