The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has launched a new graduate certificate program in a growing field in the construction industry.

Beginning this fall, students can earn the 15-credit-hour graduate certificate in estimating management through the UA Little Rock Department of Construction Management and Civil and Construction Engineering program.

Estimating is an important part of planning for construction projects, which involves calculating project costs, resources, and duration of project.

The new graduate certificate will provide training for a fast-growing field. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for cost estimators, who had an average annual salary of $61,790 in 2016, is projected to increase by 9 percent from 2014 to 2024.

At the end of the one-year program, students will be prepared to take the Associate Estimating Professional Exam administered by the American Society of Professional Estimators.
