Watson sets school record with third Sun Belt Conference weekly honor
For the third time this season, University of Arkansas at Little Rock student-athlete Shanieke Watson earned the Sun Belt Conference’s Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award, making her the first Trojan in program history to earn the award three times in her career.
As Little Rock’s lone entrant in the Mt. SAC Relays, Watson set a new personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.13 — 11.53 seconds faster than her previous time. She finished the event seventh out of 24 runners.
Watson’s time is currently the fastest in the Sun Belt Conference this season by a margin of 14.05 seconds and ranks as the third fastest in school history. Presently, she is qualified for the NCAA West Regional as her time sits 43rd out of the 48 qualifying spots.
