Writers’ Workshop Offers Advice on Bios, Autobios
Budding writers in the campus community interested in telling their own stories or the biography of another are invited to a workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Ledbetter Hall Room C in the Donaghey Student Center.
The workshop, sponsored by the UALR Writers’ Network, will focus on writing autobiographies and biographies for all members of the UALR campus. The event is free and members of the public are welcome, but should check with Lauren White, president of the Writers’ Network, on space availability.
Dr. Sally Crisp, director of the Little Rock Writing Project and an instructor in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing, will work with participants to help them begin composing auto/biographical texts. The Writers’ Network will provide proof of attendance for students whose instructors offer extra credit for attending the workshop.
“The workshop will be highly interactive, and all participants should bring writing materials and a desire to tell their own stories,” said Dr. Charles Anderson, professor of Rhetoric and Writing. “Bring your lunch, encourage your students, and come work with a master teacher.”
The Little Rock Writing Project, which Crisp directs, is dedicated to helping teachers across the state of Arkansas improve the writing of their students. She teaches an auto/biography class and has helped gather personal stories for the Digital Archives of Literacy Narratives housed at the University of Ohio, which have been praised by Cynthia L. Selfe, the director of that project, as “some of the best stories in the project.”
