Professor celebrates 55 years at UALR

How do you express the proper gratitude to someone who has served UALR students for 55 years? Do you sing them a song? Tell them how awesome they are, or both? The campus community would like to celebrate faculty member, Dr. James (Jim) Fulmer, associate professor in the UALR Math Department.

Fulmer has worked at the university since Sept. 1, 1959, and he celebrates his birthday Sept 20. He will be 81.

Fulmer teaches math and statistics courses and he known for easing the fears of students taking his Calculus II course.

“We offer Calculus II every summer and it draws student from all over the state. In the last two years we have had to double that class to allow more students,” said Dr. Thomas McMillan, chair of the Math Department.

“I am convinced it is because Fulmer teaches the class,” he added.

Dr. Jim FulmerFulmer is known for his high energy, strong Trojan pride, and positive attitude that is contagious to both his colleagues and pupils.

“He loves teaching. He loves his students. He tells me when he comes to school he is energized by his students, and the student makes him feel young; that energizes me,” said McMillan.

“He leads the faculty procession during commencement ceremonies as the most senior faculty member, but that is not all. He diligently helps with the planning as well,” said McMillan.
