UALR employee appointed to State Historic Preservation Committee
Gov. Asa Hutchinson has appointed a University of Arkansas at Little Rock employee to the State Review Committee for Historic Preservation.
The committee’s primary duty is to consider nominations of Arkansas properties to be added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Andrijana Vukovich’s term is scheduled to run through 2020.
Vukovich, UALR’s director of planning and capital construction, said it is important to preserve historic properties to protect history.
“Older buildings are storytellers. They contribute to a society’s culture and certainly a community’s intricacy,” Vukovich said. “They can speak of a particular family, or an event, or series of them. Whatever the story is, there is a sense of mystery and curiosity that will pull us in. Once this incredible story is destroyed, we can never have it back.”
Vukovich’s supervisor, Dave Millay, associate vice chancellor of facilities management, said he is fortunate to have Vukovich in his department.
“This appointment is an honor for Andrijana and for UALR,” Millay said. “Andrijana is an exemplary employee and a credit to our university.”
Vukovich graduated with a master’s degree in business administration from UALR in 2015. She will teach a course in architectural history in the fall 2016 semester.
