ATLE to host writing workshops

The UALR Academy of Teaching and Learning Excellence will host a faculty and staff writing retreat and two writing workshops May 17-18 in Little Rock.

, associate provost for academic engagement and director of the writing center at the University of Oklahoma, will lead the workshops.

The faculty/staff writing retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the University of Arkansas System Office boardroom at 2404 N. University Ave. Participants should bring a copy of their current writing projects in electronic or paper format.

Space is limited to the first 24 participants. Lunch will be provided. To RSVP for this retreat, please fill out this Google form.

A two-part workshop that focuses on working with student writers will be held on Wednesday, May 18, at the University of Arkansas System Office boardroom.

The morning session, from 9 a.m. to noon, will focus on how to design meaningful writing assignments. Participants should bring a copy of a writing assignment or assignments they would like to improve.

The Wednesday afternoon session will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. It will focus on working with students engaged in independent writing projects, particularly undergraduate and graduate theses and dissertations.

Eodice has been a writing center director and a leader in the field of writing centers for more than 20 years. She currently serves as an editor of “The Writing Center Journal,” the primary research journal of the International Writing Centers Association.

Her ongoing research interests include co-authoring, collaborative writing, adult and higher education, developing faculty writing at universities, and student engagement and learning through writing practices.
