UALR announces Andrea Angel as new associate vice chancellor
A leader in fundraising for UALR has been named associate vice chancellor for alumni and development.
In her new role, Andrea Angel will coordinate fundraising efforts and help lay the groundwork for the campus’s next fundraising campaign. The next campaign will build on the success of UALR’s last major campaign, “It’s Time for UALR,” which exceeded its original $75 million goal by $28 million.
Her appointment is effective July 1.
At UALR, Angel has served for more than a decade, most recently as senior director of development, with responsibility for increasing partnerships with the university. In her previous position as director of development for the College of Business, she organized and exceeded the $500,000 Stephen Harrow Smith Challenge and took that college’s fundraising to new consistent levels of success. As director of athletics development for the university’s Department of Athletics, she was responsible for bringing the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship first/second rounds to Little Rock in 2008.
Angel said she is looking forward to working with UALR Vice Chancellor Christian O’Neal to strengthen fundraising by helping existing partnerships grow and proposing new ones.
“I’m delighted that Andrea’s drive and competitiveness is at work for us,” O’Neal said. “She brings success to the position and has earned the complete confidence of our colleagues and constituents.
“Philanthropy plays an increasingly critical role in supporting our students and their experience at UALR,” O’Neal said. “External financial support also allows UALR to address the needs of Little Rock and central Arkansas. I know Andrea has the ability to ensure that our mission is broadly understood and widely supported.”
Angel will begin by meeting with a cross-section of donors and donor prospects.
“It’s important that alumni, friends, and corporate partners of UALR understand their vital role in keeping higher education accessible and affordable to our students,” Angel said.
Sheila Castin, chair of the UALR Foundation Fund’s board of directors, said she has worked with Angel for years.
“My husband, Gene, and I recognize her considerable talents and are very pleased she has agreed to be an active member of the UALR Advancement leadership team,” Castin said. “I very much look forward to working with her in this role.”
A native of Daleville, Indiana, Angel earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UALR where she is completing an MBA. She and her husband, David, have one child, Annabel.
