Reach 13,000 Food Drive to kick off with Constitution Day Sept. 16

Cans of food line the shelves of the UALR Trojan Food Pantry.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Reach 13,000 Food Drive will begin on Constitution Day.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Donaghey Student Center Foyer, visitors can register to vote and receive free constitution handouts. A piece of duct tape also will be used to tape graduate assistant Dillon Nash to a wall for each $1 or nonperishable food item donated to the campaign.

The goal of the Reach 13,000 campaign is to collect 13,000 nonperishable food items, which will be donated to the UALR Trojan Food Pantry, Staff Senate’s Helping Hands, the 12th Street Clinic, and the Arkansas Food Bank. The campaign will run through Nov. 4.

A new element of the campaign is a campus-wide competition to see which UALR student organization and department collects the most items to the food drive. At the end of the campaign, the winners will receive a trophy in honor of their dedication to fighting hunger. Departments can request a food drive donation box by filling out an online form.

The campaign will continue with the UALR Fall Festival and Kickball Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex. The day’s events will begin with the Fall Festival from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while the kickball tournament will begin at 3 p.m.

The family friendly Fall Festival will feature games, arts and crafts, and face painting. Admission is $5 or five nonperishable food items per person. Those who are interested in sponsoring a table at the Fall Festival can do so by filling out an online form.

To participate in the Kickball Tournament, visit the tournament’s website to register a team of nine to 12 players. The team entry fee is a donation of 60 nonperishable items or $100.

The Reach 13,000 campaign will end in style with the sixth annual Battle of the Talents from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3. The location will be announced at a future date. Admission will be $10 or a donation of 10 non-perishable food items.

Auditions for the talent show will run Oct. 3-14. Those who are interested in auditioning for the talent show can do so by filling out this online form.
