UA Little Rock Public Radio Teams Up with StoryCorps to Record, Preserve, and Share Little Rock’s Stories
UA Little Rock Public Radio, home of KUAR and KRLE, will host StoryCorps for four weeks to record the stories of local residents and preserve them in the Library of Congress.
StoryCorps, the national nonprofit organization dedicated to recording, preserving, and sharing the stories of people from all backgrounds and beliefs, will record remote interviews in Arkansas from March 24 to April 24 as part of its Mobile Tour.
“StoryCorps is one of the best examples of the value of public radio and public broadcasting for our community and our nation,” said Nathan Vandiver, general manager of UA Little Rock Public Radio. “Every Friday morning, I’m amazed at the stories I hear and the context they give me into historical and contemporary events and culture. It’s even better when I hear a story tied to Arkansas, because it reminds me how much the history of our place matters. I hope anyone in central Arkansas with a story, or who knows someone with a story, will sign up and add it to the record. Your experience matters, and sharing it with StoryCorps is like putting money in the bank for future generations.”
KUAR and StoryCorps will host a virtual open house at 6 p.m. March 4 to introduce StoryCorps to the community and explain how remote recording works. Interested parties can register for the event via this link.
Now in its 16th year, the StoryCorps Mobile Tour has facilitated thousands of meaningful conversations between people who know and care about one another in its MobileBooth, an Airstream trailer outfitted with a recording studio. For the safety of participants during the pandemic, StoryCorps is currently visiting each location on the tour remotely, recording conversations in its “virtual recording booth.” Participants can record remotely from their homes using an internet-connected device.
Individuals can make reservations for recordings beginning at 10 a.m. March 10 by calling StoryCorps’ 24-hour toll-free reservation line at 1-800-850-4406 or visiting storycorps.org/kuar.
