Alums Named to ‘20 in Their 20s’

Two alums of UALR’s MBA program were named to the Arkansas Business “20 in their 20s” list.

Chasse Conque, director of development for the UAMS College of Medicine, previously worked in UALR Office of Development where he was manager of donor relations while earning a master’s degree in business. During his five years in the position, Conque kicked off SpectacUALR, a fundraising program that generated nearly $400,000 for the school in its first two years. He also founded an alumni association to help raise private support.

UALR alumnus Frank Scott, director of intergovernmental affairs and deputy director of policy in Gov. Mike Beebe’s office, graduated from UALR in 2009 with an MBA degree with an emphasis in strategic management. He also serves on the board of directors for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas and Better Community Developers Inc.

Posey to Present in Boston Nov. 19-22

PoseyDr. Clay Posey, assistant professor of management, and two of his colleagues — Tom L. Roberts of Louisiana Tech University and Ross Hightower of Texas A&M University — have been invited to give a presentation on their information security research at the 2011 Decision Sciences Institute’s Annual Meeting Saturday to Tuesday, Nov. 19 to 22, in Boston.

The title of the presentation is “Assessing the Motivating and Inhibiting Factors Surrounding Internal Computer Abuse.”

Economic Conference to Forecast State, National Outlook Nov. 2

Kenneth Simonson, chief economist of the Associated General Contractors of America, will present his take on the national economic outlook at the Arkansas Economic Forecast Conference, hosted by the Institute for Economic Advancement, Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock.

Farewell’s Article to be Published in April

An article titled “Attesting Adios! Airways’ XBRL Filings: A Case Study on Performing Agreed-Upon Procedures” by Dr. Stephanie Farewell, associate professor of accounting in the College of Business, will be published in April 2012 as a book chapter in “Accounting Education,” edited by Karen Van Peursem, Elizabeth Monk, Richard M.S. Wilson, and Ralph W. Adler.

Dean’s Forum Hosts Tide-to-Go Creator

Roy Sandbach, developer of Procter & Gamble’s Tide-to-Go stain remover stick, will be the fall 2011 College of Business Dean’s Forum featured speaker at 5:30 Monday, Oct. 24. His topic: “Innovating for Billions.”

Gilliam Paper Wins Award

A paper written by Dr. David Gilliam, assistant professor of marketing in the College of Business, has been selected Best Paper in the Sales/CRM Track of the American Marketing Association’s 2012 Winter Marketing Educator’s Conference. Group Presents Service Award to Powell

Dr. Lawrence S. Powell, Whitbeck-Beyer Chair of Insurance and Financial Services and an associate professor of finance in the College of Business, has received the 2011 Service Award from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.
