About Brittany Straw

How did you get started in the Career Services profession?
I have been in Higher Education for over 10 years now. I began my tenure in NEA at Arkansas State University. During this time, I served in First-Year Studies, Administrative Specialist III, Financial Aid Counselor, and Career Counselor, then excelled as the Assistant Director of Career Education,  where I manage the Career Track Razorbacks a campus-wide professional development program.  Now, I am the director of career services and strive to prepare Trojans for post-graduation success.

Describe a “typical workday” in Career Services.
It is very thrilling that every day brings different events and people. We have a great team in Career Services and on-campus which allows us to partner and innovate new ways to interject career readiness in the curriculum.  A typical day for me consists of assisting a small business owner with creating a job posting for their social media position or reading best practices in career readiness.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I am excited to travel and experience new places and cultures. In the winter, I enjoy cooking and spending the holidays with family and friends. In the summer, I must be outdoors. I like going to the park with my dog, gardening, and attending festivals.

What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?
Washington D.C. both times I was able to view the White House. It was like having a virtual History Lesson. I prefer going in the winter. Something about the snow made it magical.

What do you like best about living in Central Arkansas?
I love being able to be close to my family. Central Arkansas has so much natural beauty so visiting parks and getting outdoors is great as well.
