Coronavirus/Flu measures

Dear Campus Community,

We are monitoring the coronavirus (2019-nCov) situation and are taking proactive measures to ensure the health and safety of our Trojan family.

We are not aware of any students, faculty, or staff who may have been exposed to the coronavirus. There have been 170 deaths worldwide so far according to official reports. The risk for UA Little Rock is considered low, but new virus outbreaks are always a public health concern. Your health and safety remains a top priority.

However, we caution you that this is the cold and flu season. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is listing Arkansas in the high category of influenza-like diseases, with over 1,400 positive tests last week. They note that many more people are likely affected than just those tested.

The best way to stay healthy is to follow these simple, but effective, steps:

  • Wash your hands for 20 seconds or more with soapy water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid contact with sick people.
  • Get a flu vaccination. Flu shots are available through UA Little Rock Health Services.

Our Health Services officials and university administrators will continue to work closely with the Arkansas Department of Health to keep our community safe and healthy. If the situation changes, we will follow up with additional information.

If you are feeling unwell, visit UA Little Rock Health Services on the first floor of the Donaghey Student Center or call 501-569-3188.  If you have been to Wuhan, China within the past two weeks, call ahead before going to see a doctor or emergency room.
