Dear Trojan Family,
In the last few weeks, we have witnessed several devastating hate crimes that remind us that our university’s mission “to promote humane sensitivities and understanding of interdependence” has never been more important than it is now. The recent deadly attack in Buffalo, New York shocks and saddens, and leaves many of us wondering what we can do to stem this ugly rising tide.
Know that as an institution, UA Little Rock will continue to stand against hatred, intolerance and violence. We will remain committed to creating not just a more inclusive environment, but one where we are all responsible for learning how to identify and dismantle the prejudices and fears that jeopardize our mission and our humanity. In our institutional planning, the promotion of diversity and respect will be among the values underlying our goals and strategies for all that we do. We may not be able to change the world, but we can change ourselves to become more of what we value and what we stand for.
Some of you may find yourself struggling with this latest or other recent hate crime events, or you may know someone who is. I encourage you to connect with Counseling Services and learn more about the assistance available. Let’s all continue to support one another within our campus community and within the community at large. Let’s recommit to acknowledging and strengthening our shared humanity.
