Benefits of Counseling

College life can be challenging and stressful. Students experience difficulty in many areas: adjusting to college, deciding on an academic major, struggling with relationships, or getting along with a roommate. Students often feel anxious, depressed, confused, or overwhelmed at some point during their college experience and need help coping with feelings and problems that seem beyond their control.

For college students, help in dealing with these problems and feelings may come from friends, family members, or significant others. However, in some cases, help is needed from a trained professional. Counseling is a process that helps individuals identify effective strategies to cope with difficult situations and to achieve personal goals. While some seeking counseling have chronic emotional and/or psychological difficulties, most students seeking our services are dealing with normal life events and simply need an objective listener – someone who doesn’t judge and who helps them perceive new perspectives.
