Invitation to Join Race and Ethnicity Groups

Dear Campus Community,

I’m writing to follow up on the two race and ethnicity groups that we will be starting up this fall, and to invite those of you who may be interested in participating to submit an interest form by September 11.

RACE AND ETHNICITY GROUPS

The first group is the Racial Barriers Committee as recommended by the Student Government Association. The charge of this committee will be to review policies and processes for potential unintended racial barriers and also to field complaints, concerns, and suggestions from students concerning race and ethnicity issues. This committee supplements and extends the work of the Diversity Council’s Policy Committee and the Policy Management Board by facilitating the review of a larger volume of policies and concerns with a particular focus on race and ethnicity. The make up and full charge of this committee can be found on the Diversity Council website. This committee is open to students, staff, and faculty. If you are interested in being a part of this important new committee, please submit this interest form and I will be in touch with you.

The second group is the Chancellor’s Race and Ethnicity Advisory Committee whose purpose is to keep the conversation about race and ethnicity going and to identify areas for continuous improvement. This advisory committee will meet with the Chancellor twice a month. Faculty and staff whose lived experiences on campus and in the community are likely to inform discussions of race and ethnicity are especially encouraged to join. Please submit this interest form if you would like to participate in the advisory committee.

UPCOMING FORUMS

I want to remind you also that we have two open forums on race and ethnicity scheduled in September (dates below), one for students and one for faculty and staff. I look forward to hearing from you at these meetings.

Christina S. Drale, Chancellor
