If an employee is injured on the job, the employee may be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits, including medical care and income replacement.
Effective July 1, 2014, the Public Employee Claims Division (PECD) of the Arkansas Insurance Department, who administers our workers’ compensation program, will introduce a Telephonic Injury Reporting System for UA Little Rock employees to file all on the job injury claims.
Any employee with work related injuries who need medical treatment must call the Company Nurse Injury Hotline at 1-855-339-1893. It is accessible 24 hours/7 days a week. All claims should be reported within 48 hours of the injury, this service will aid in getting timely and appropriate medical treatment.
Employees and supervisors should follow these steps when reporting a work-related injury effective July 1, 2014:
- Employees should immediately notify their supervisor of an injury.
- If the injury is life threatening, seek emergency care immediately.
- Call the Company Nurse Injury Hotline at 1-855-339-1893 when medical treatment is needed. If the employee is unable to call Company Nurse, the employee’s supervisor should make the call for the employee.
- A nurse will gather information and make a care recommendation and advise the employee on the next step.
- An injury report will be sent to the designated treatment facility (UA Little Rock Health Services is our designated clinic) prior to the injured employee’s visit.
- If the employee is NOT seeking any type of medical treatment, the employee must complete the Employee Incident Report. Do not call Company Nurse, if you are not seeking medical treatment.
- The Company Nurse will send the claim form to the Department of Human Resources. Additional information and signatures will be required by the employee and their supervisor. A Human Resources Representative will contact the supervisor to complete this process.
- All referrals and follow up appointments must be approved in advance by Public Employee Claims Division. PECD will determine whether an employee’s claim is eligible for workers’ compensation benefits. Please contact the Department of Human Resources for Workers’ Compensation contact information.
- All departments should have Company Nurse posters and wallet cards for employees with the UA Little Rock identification code for Company Nurse. Company Nurse posters and wallet cards may be obtained from the Department of Human Resources.
Temporary Prescription Form (TPF)
If employees have to receive medical treatment and need prescriptions filled, the employee will need a temporary prescription form. UA Little Rock Health Services or the Department of Human Resources will complete this form, make a copy and give the original to the employee to take to the pharmacy.
Lost Time and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
If an employee starts missing time from work due to their work related injury, please notify the Department of Human Resources immediately.
Workers’ Compensation and FMLA run concurrently. An injured employee may need to complete Family and Medical Leave documents in cases of “lost time” situations.
