Hangouts Meet: video conferencing at your fingertips
Hangouts Meet is a video conferencing service that enables you to join virtual meetings via audio, video, chat, and screen sharing. There are no time limits, and telephone dial-in to a U.S. phone number is provided; dial-out is free to the United States and Canada.
Hangouts Meet is one of the core services in G Suite for Education, which means it is free to the entire university. While Hangouts Meet is primarily used with a web browser, you may also use Android and iOS mobile-device apps or Chrome devices.
Re-usable, custom meeting URLs
Did you know you can create a Hangouts Meet URL with your own custom meeting nickname? And then you can re-use it as a standing meeting room for university participants.
- Visit meet.google.com.
- Select Join or Start a meeting.
- When prompted, enter a custom meeting nickname.
A nickname is a meaningful phase, such as “our-meeting”.
- Select Continue and then Join now.
You may now bookmark the meeting URL and re-use it later. The meeting will retain the nickname.
