Career Jumpstart Workshop

October 28, 2019 at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$5

The UA Little Rock chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America will host a Career Jumpstart workshop in Stabler Hall Room 306 from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 28. The event, which will feature four local journalism and public relations professionals, is aimed at preparing students to apply for Mass Communication jobs and internships.

At 5:30 p.m. Alfred Warren, an associate PR account executive at Mangan Holcomb Partners, will discuss personal branding and creating the perfect LinkedIn profile.

Afterward, there will be a panel discussion on applying for communication jobs featuring Steve Goff, city editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette; Scott Carroll, digital content manager at KATV; and Lamor Williams, communications and marketing manager for the city of Little Rock. Some panel topics will include: Dos and Don’ts of creating a resume, the experience/skills needed to land a Mass Comm job or internship, and what to do/not to do in job interviews.

We will also have a photographer on site from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to take headshots for any student who attends the workshop. Business casual dress is encouraged but not required.

This event is a fundraiser for the UA Little Rock PRSSA chapter, and the cost to attend is $5 per student. Refreshments will be provided.

This workshop will be beneficial for any student interested in a career in Mass Communication, particularly undergrads and those who don’t have a lot of experience applying for jobs or internships. It will provide needed insight about the job-seeking process and an opportunity to network with area professionals.
