Faculty Grants

The Middle Eastern Studies (MEST) Program invites UA Little Rock faculty to apply for grants to support their teaching and scholarship in the area of MEST. Grants for full-time faculty typically will not exceed $3000 and funding generally ranges from $500-$2500. Part-time (adjunct) faculty can apply for small grants of up to $500. Grants will be reviewed on a competitive basis by the Middle Eastern Studies Committee.

The Program will consider applications on a rolling basis until the funds allocated for faculty activities have been exhausted, whichever comes first.

Faculty are encouraged to think creatively about the activities that the grants could fund. Academic projects related to any aspect of the Middle East or MEST course development are applicable. Scholars from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply.

How to Apply

Please submit a detailed letter of application, budget, and c.v. to:

Dr. Katrina Yeaw, MEST Coordinator

Applicants should describe how their activities would fit into their agenda of scholarship and/or teaching, and how, due to the grant, they could contribute to the advancement of MEST at UA Little Rock. Include a preliminary budget and the total amount requested; the budget should be itemized and as detailed as possible. For teaching proposals, a commitment to teach a course on a topic pertaining to an aspect of MEST backed by a letter from a departmental chair is not required, but would substantially increase the chance of being funded. Those who have not received the grant in the past will be given priority.

All grant recipients are expected to provide an output to the UA Little Rock community that is consistent with the funded project, e.g., teaching a class or delivering a public presentation. All grantees must submit a report documenting how the funds were used.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, applications received by October 27, 2023, will be given priority. Still, we will accept applications on a rolling basis until all funds allocated for this purpose have been exhausted.

Applications received by October 31, 2024, will be given priority for the 2024- 2025 academic year.
