College of Business program meets national standard

UA Little Rock College of Business

A University of Arkansas at Little Rock degree program has once again earned a significant distinction from one of the nation’s leading human resource management organizations.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) announced that the Bachelor in Business Administration in Management with an emphasis in human resource (HR) management has “renewed its alignment with the organization’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.”

Susie Cox, professor and chair of the Department of Management in the UA Little Rock College of Business, said the renewal — which covers January 2018 to December 2023 — is a meaningful development.

“Maintaining alignment with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidelines allows our faculty, staff, and students to be confident that we are offering our students the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to be successful in an HR career after graduation,” Cox said.

Throughout the world, the society has acknowledged 448 programs in 337 educational institutions as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. It developed the HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates to define the minimum human resources content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The guidelines — created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010 and 2013 — are part of the organization’s academic initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and to help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.
