UA Little Rock to feature pianist Norman Boehm April 8

Pianist Norman Boehm, professor of music at Hendrix College, will star in a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in the Fine Arts Building’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. 

The performance, which is free and open to the public, will feature Frederick Delius’s “The Walk to the Paradise Garden,” Boehm’s Sonata in F major, Robert Boury’s “Three Lost Waltzes,” Frederic Chopin’s Barcarolle, Op. 60, as well as Two Poems, Op. 32 by Alexander Scriabin and Robert Schumann’s Fantasy in C major, Op. 17.

Boehm holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music. As a pianist, he has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, South Africa, and the United States.

He specializes in music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and has performed a number of single-composer recitals, featuring the music of Faure, Scriabin, Medtner, Ireland, and Grainger.

In addition to original composition, he has concentrated in recent years on arranging large-scale symphonic works for chamber ensembles, including the eighth and ninth symphonies of Bruckner and the first symphony of Elgar.
