UALR’s Office of Community Engagement held its annual Service Fair Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the Donaghey Student Center offering volunteer and internship opportunities to members of the campus community – especially students.

Taurine Main, a sophomore majoring in biology with a double minor in nonprofit leadership and business, signed up to volunteer with the Humane Society of Pulaski County.

“I’ve always been an animal lover,” said Main. “Helping them in times of depression is my specialty.”

Main said she fostered 22 animals over the summer after the recent tornadoes devastated the Vilonia area where she lives, and though she cannot foster during the school year, she now has an opportunity to help in other ways.

A Youth Educator at Unity Church in Little Rock, Main also applied for a part-time position with UALR Children International.

“I have the talents and skills, and they expressed a need for a part-time worker. I made a connection through volunteering and networking,” she said.

Students were able to meet with more than 20 organizations from the central Arkansas area at the fair.
