Social media, disinformation the topic of next UA Little Rock Downtown lecture
The UA Little Rock Downtown Lecture Series continues on Wednesday, March 13, with a talk on “Deviant Mobs of the Internet: Bots, Trolls, and Misinformation” by Nitin Agarwal, Maulden-Entergy Endowed Chair and Distinguished Professor of Information Science and Director of COSMOS (Collaboratorium for Social Media and Online Behavioral Studies).
The lecture begins at 6 p.m. at UA Little Rock Downtown, 333 President Clinton Ave.
Agarwal will discuss how social media platforms are used for a variety of malicious activities, including the dissemination of propaganda, hoaxes, and fake news to influence the public. His talk will touch on research efforts that show how disinformation campaigns work, while examining the critical link between blogs and other social media platforms.
The UA Little Rock Downtown Lecture Series features UA Little Rock faculty discussing issues in science, health, community, the arts, and other topics every Wednesday from 6-7 p.m.
