As a history major, students learn important skills which are attractive to a wide range of employers.

Dr. Barclay Key, chair of the Department of History, said that the online program largely owes its success to hard-working, innovative, and dedicated faculty members.

“Not only are they award-winning scholars, but they are also innovative and creative teachers who are genuinely committed to helping students succeed,” Key said. “Faculty are accessible to students and responsive to their questions, but they also approach classes with immense curiosity and the expectation that everyone, including the teacher, has more to learn about any given topic.”

Key said the program also provides students with many unique class opportunities. In the past year, the program has offered unique classes such as “History of Apocalyptic Thought,” “History & Globalization of the Drug Trade,” and “History of the Internet,” in addition to more traditional topics.

“These classes help students realize that everything has a history, and regardless of the content, critical thinking and careful research are important tools in evaluating the past,” Key added.
