Members of the Campus Community:
The Arkansas General Assembly passed the Arkansas Clean Air Act in 2009, which prohibits smoking tobacco or “other lighted combustible plant material” anywhere on campus, including buildings, grounds, and parking lots. The penalty for violating the law is a fine not less than $100 or greater than $500.
In 2015, the Arkansas General Assembly amended the Arkansas Clean Air Act to include e-cigarettes or vapor devices in the smoking ban. UALR has amended our Smoke-Free Campus Policy (219.1) in accordance with state law. Vapor devices and e-cigarettes are no longer permitted at UALR.
All university locations, including the main campus, the William H. Bowen School of Law campus, and the Benton campuses, are covered under the smoke-free policy.
The smoke-free campus policy and Arkansas Clean Air Act strengthen smoking prevention efforts and reduce the harmful effects of secondhand smoke. UALR offers a robust smoking cessation program through UALR Health Services. Call 501-569-3188 for more information or to set up an appointment.
