Most Recent Review Date: –

Reason for Policy:
To guide academic programs and administrators in academic program review and accreditation.

Policy Statement:
The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board (AHECB Policy 5.12) requires that all academic programs that are not accredited, licensed or certified by a disciplinary board must undergo a comprehensive, written self-study and external review every 7-10 years.

Academic programs that are accredited licensed, or certified by an external agency will follow the timeline set forth by the external board.

It is the responsibility of designated program faculty, coordinators, and academic unit heads to prepare timely, accurate, and comprehensive approval, accreditation, licensing, or certification reports. Reports are reviewed by the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (AVCAA) over curriculum and continuous improvement in advance of external submission. This reporting is recognized as a service component.

Academic programs that receive adverse accreditation or approval comments, findings, or actions are required to submit an annual progress report that addresses actions, modifications, or revisions that are being implemented to address areas of concern. The reports are to be submitted to the college dean and the AVCAA by the date designated by the Office of the Provost. Annual reports will be required until a subsequent external review determines that negative comments, findings, or actions from the previous review have been mitigated.

It is the responsibility of designated program faculty, coordinators, and academic unit heads to prepare and submit these annual reports, which should demonstrate ongoing progress toward quality assurance and compliance with approval, accreditation, licensure, and certification standards. This reporting is recognized as a service component.
