Landing on a Comet

The European Space Agency is poised to make history this week when their Rosetta Spacecraft will detach a lander named Philae to set down upon the surface of a comet. Comets are leftover bits of materials that went into the making of our solar system and as such are able to tell us a great deal about our origins. Rosetta is the first probe to orbit a comet and if successful, Philae will become the first craft to land on one. The touchdown is schedule for Wednesday.
