Chemistry students have several opportunities to apply for scholarships. These scholarships are available for B.A. and B.S. Chemistry majors who will be juniors or seniors in the upcoming academic year. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and meet any additional criteria listed below.
Students can apply beginning Jan. 18 by using a universal form on the Scholarships website. The deadline for receiving all materials is March 1.
Darryl K. Reach Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory of Daryl K. Reach who was a faculty member of the Department of Chemistry for 13 years at UA Little Rock. He retired from his position as lecturer in August 2007. This scholarship provides funds that may be used for education related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree in the Department of Chemistry at UA Little Rock.
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in Chemistry. Preference will be given to junior and senior level students. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. This scholarship is renewable; recipients must reapply annually.
Frank Lamar Setliff Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory of Dr. Frank Lamar Setliff and his 35 years of service to the students and faculty at UA Little Rock. He retired as a full professor and became an emeritus professor in 2001. This scholarship provides funds that may be used for any education related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for students pursuing or furthering a degree in the Department of Chemistry at UA Little Rock.
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in Chemistry. Preference will be given to junior and senior level students. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. Preference will be given to those students who are considering pursuing a career in the medical field. This scholarship is renewable; recipients must reapply annually.
Betty and Richard Hanson Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of the Betty and Richard Hanson Endowed Scholarship is to provide assistance to a student who has earned a grade of B or better in the introductory course in Analytical Chemistry to provide assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board, for students pursuing minor or major in Chemistry at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Betty and Richard Hanson established this Endowed Scholarship. Dr. Richard Hanson has served the University with the distinction in the capacities of Chemistry Professor and Graduate Dean. Dr. Hanson is an emeritus Professor of Chemistry.
The scholarship is renewable, but the recipient must reapply annually. The financial need for the student should be considered. Students with significant scholarship aid from other sources usually would not be granted the Betty and Richard Hanson Endowed Scholarship. Preference should be granted to chemistry majors over Chemistry minors, other factors being equal.
ACS Book Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide partial book support for full-time students pursuing a degree in chemistry. Preference will be given to junior and senior level students. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.
