IEP Hosts Distinguished Deaf Presenters Series

The Interpreter Education Program (IEP) will host a Distinguished Deaf Presenters Series. The IEP is very fortunate to have some national and international deaf persons visit our campus this fall semester. Each guest in the series will present to the Interpreting majors, future majors, or those thinking about majoring!

Dr. Zheng Xuan is the first deaf person to receive a PhD in linguistics from a Chinese university. She is an Associate Professor, Special Education Department of Chongqing Normal University and a Researcher at the Center for Chinese Sign Language and Deaf Studies, Shanghai University.

Dominik Pointer & Magdalena Starzengruber
Dominik is a young man from Austria with Ushers Syndrome. He is fluent in Austrian Sign Language and will be using primarily Gustuno (international sign language) interpreted into ASL by Michael McMahon, CDI. Magdalena is from Austria and she knows German, Austrian Sign Language, and English.

Stacy Abrams is an Arkansan, a proud graduate of both Gallaudet University and University of California at Santa Barbara. She is this year’s AAD Convention Keynote Presenter! She started the #whyisign campaign that went viral. She is the Coordinator of Training for the Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University.
