Safety Rules

Failure to follow any of these rules may result in suspension or revocation of shop privileges.

Everyone entering shop area must wear safety glasses.

Do not cross safety tape or operate a machine unless you meet the following requirements:

  • Shoes must completely enclose feet.
  • Shirts must be close fitting and tucked in at the waist. Long sleeves must be rolled up and restrained above the elbow.
  • Full-length pants must be worn.
  • Long hair must be tied up securely.
  • All jewelry, as well as loose clothing and accessories, must be removed.
  • Use hearing protection as necessary.

Do not work alone.
Do not work when you are impaired by exhaustion, anxiety, intoxicants, medications or injuries.
If you are not sure how to correctly and safely perform an operation, ask for assistance.
Do not leave machinery running unattended.
Do not leave a key in a chuck.

Keep your hands well away from the point of contact between the work-piece and cutter.

  • Support work-pieces and cutting tools as securely as possible. If you must hand-hold the work to keep it in place, then your setup is unsafe.
  • Do not remove chips with your fingers. Use brushes or pliers.

Report any damaged or missing machinery or tooling to shop personnel.
Clean area thoroughly at end of work session.
