Funding Guidelines

Authors

  • Tenured or tenure-eligible faculty who are the sole, primary, or corresponding author of the work are eligible to receive funds. Articles co-authored with authors from other institutions will only be supported if the UA Little Rock author is the lead or corresponding author.
  • Applicants should provide cost-sharing (e.g., department, college, grant funds) when available.
  • Applicants are limited to one funding disbursement per fiscal year. Only one author per publication is eligible for funding.

Publications

  • Funded manuscripts must be published in fully open access journals or books with free availability to readers at the time of publication (with no embargo period).
  • Publications must be peer-reviewed sources from reputable publishers with an article fee schedule publicly available online.
  • The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) the Directory of Open Access Books and/or the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association may be used to help verify a publication’s quality and open access credentials.
  • Hybrid journals and books (i.e., those that charge reader fees or subscriptions while publishing specific articles/chapters as open access) are ineligible. Applicants should check with the library to discover which hybrid journals are supported via read and publish agreements.

Funding

  • The maximum amount of support is $2,000 for a single publication. The author is responsible for paying any additional amount or other incidental charges.
  • Requests will be supported on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are expended.
  • The Ottenheimer Library will make payments for approved awards to publishers on the author’s behalf. Authors should not make payments prior to the grant award, as reimbursements cannot be guaranteed.
  • Upon award, authors should submit their accepted article/chapter for publication within four weeks of funding. Funded awards must be expended within the fiscal year requested.
  • Authors should include the following statement of acknowledgment: “This publication was funded by the UA Little Rock Open Access Article Publishing Support Fund.”
  • Authors agree to deposit a final published version of the manuscript into a university institutional repository for long-term preservation and collocation with other  university scholarship.
