Why Reading Literature in School Still Matters

General Session

Contingent Scaffolding

Scaffolding requires a teacher who is reflective and responsive to the negotiations of the child. This session will examine the meaning of ‘contingent scaffolding’ and how can we apply it to our lessons. Prior to the session, please read the articles “The Why? What? When? and How? of Tutoring: The Development of Helping and Tutoring Skills in Children” by David Wood and “Applying Wood’s Levels of Contingent Support for Learning in Reading Recovery” by Mary K Lose. Video clips will be viewed for examples of contingent scaffolding and scale of help for scaffolding.
