The percussion program at UA Little Rock is designed to cultivate musicianship, artistry, and professionalism through diverse experiences in private lessons and ensembles all while studying at the only metropolitan campus in Arkansas.
The UA Little Rock Percusson Ensemble is open to music majors, minors, and non-majors with any level of percussion experience. This ensemble provides a venue for the cultivation of chamber rehearsal and performance skills through a mixture of historical and contemporary percussion repertoire.
The new UA Little Rock Steel Band is open to music majors, minors, and non-majors that are able to read music. Students learn steel pan as the primary instrumentation along with rhythm section instruments. The ensemble performs music from various styles including traditional soca, calypso, various Latin styles, jazz, and pop.
Both ensembles perform one on-campus concert per semester, as well as performances off-campus in the Metro area.
If you are a current student wanting to join either or both ensembles, or if you’re a future student interested in scheduling an audition for the percussion program, contact Dr. Justin Bunting, Director of Instrumental Activities and Assistant Professor of Percussion, at jbunting@ualr.edu.
