Four student-athletes earn All-Sun Belt postseason honors
Four members of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Trojan soccer team earned All-Conference honors from the Sun Belt Conference on Nov. 1, setting another program record in a season full of them.
Sophomore forward Arola Aparicio was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team, and teammates Doro Greulich, Mikayla Uyokpeyi, and Quin Wilkes earned All-Sun Belt Second Team status.
None of the four players had previously earned Sun Belt postseason honors in their careers. This also marks the first time Little Rock as a team posted more than two players on the Sun Belt postseason teams.
Aparicio led the Trojans this season with five goals and added two assists for 12 total points, tying her for the team lead in points. Her five goals were the fourth-most in the Sun Belt in conference-only games, and she finished fourth in the league as well with 12 conference-only points. She helped secure two victories for Little Rock with game-winning goals. Her five goals came just one year after she scored just one goal.
Aparicio becomes the Trojans’ first player to earn Sun Belt First Team honors since Christina Veasley in 2009.
Greulich made a huge impact for the Trojans right away, scoring three goals and adding three assists in her freshman campaign. All three of her goals came in conference contests, and she finished tied for eighth in the Sun Belt in conference-only points. She also added two game-winning goals for the Trojans in league action.
Uyokpeyi is the rock of the Trojans’ midfield, disrupting defenders and dishing out passes all season long. She finished the regular season with 1,564 minutes, leading the Little Rock roster. She scored a goal and tallied one assist in the final Sun Belt regular-season weekend. Uyokpeyi is seventh in Trojan history in career assists with 11. She started in 18 games and played all 19 games for the Trojans in 2016.
Wilkes added 12 more points to her career totals with four goals and four assists on the season and finishing tied for the team lead in points with Aparicio. Wilkes played in all 19 games and started 15, racking up 1,171 minutes as she racked up points. She finished tied for 10th in the conference in total points and goals and was tied for sixth in total assists. Wilkes now ranks 10th all-time in Trojan history in points (39), 11th all-time in goals (15), and 12th all-time in assists (9).
The Trojans’ four All-Sun Belt winners and the rest of the roster had a historic 2016 season that saw the team tied its all-time wins record with 11 victories and break its conference wins record with six. Last week, the team set a new program record when it ranked No. 83 in the nation in RPI, and the team currently has a six-game unbeaten streak against conference foes.
The Trojans earned the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament, breaking the 2015 team’s record for highest-ever conference tournament seed. The 2015 team earned the No. 5 seed in that year’s tournament, then a school record.
