Garcia named candidate for Senior Class Award
For excellence on and off the field, Justin Garcia has been named a candidate for the 2018 baseball Senior CLASS Award.
The Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School (CLASS) Award honors notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior.
Garcia is just one of 30 senior candidates selected for this award. Come late April, a national media committee will select 10 finalists from the list of candidates where those 10 names will be placed on an official ballot for a nationwide vote.
The award acknowledges college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility while being committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
Garcia leads the Sun Belt in strikeouts with 42 as his strikeout per nine innings ratio of 15.32 ranks eighth nationally. He has surrendered just 16 hits on the season, averaging 0.6 hits per inning, with just five earned runs.
