June Straw earned her Master of Education in Learning Systems Technology entirely online from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2011.
A single mother and registered nurse, June says she realized her desire to become an educator while she was working at a local hospital.
“I was a pediatric trauma nurse in central Arkansas for approximately 10 years. My passion toward educating patients and their families led me to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s online program for a Master’s in Education. Now, I am a medical educator for a Fortune 500 medical device company.”
Completing the program online, she said, gave her “flexibility in developing a plan to manage my workload, motherly duties, and educational goals.”
June said the program was an “engaging, interactive learning experience” that allowed her to merge her medical experience with educational theory and practice. She now develops educational platforms to train neurosurgeons and their operating staffs around the world.
“As a medical educator and graduate of LSTE, I confidently leverage new technologies in curriculum development — maximizing learning outcomes for my audience, and influencing the lives of others daily.”
Advice for Students
On getting started: “Take the first step and enroll. Don’t procrastinate. Research your career choices, select an option that is versatile and can be utilized in multi-fashions. You’re determined to be successful if you commit yourself to the vision you have for your future.”
