Celebrating UA Little Rock Graduate Kay Jones: Author, Mom, and Gifted, Creative, and Talented Alum!

Kay Jones is a 40-year educator and now author releasing her first children’s book, The Cousins are Coming, illustrated by Peter Trimarco and published by Notable Kids Publishing.

Kay is a proud graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with her masters in Gifted, Creative, and Talented Education. According to Kay, “The masters program at UA Little Rock truly shaped the manner in which I view educating children.”

“Kay was one of the most creative educators to go through our program.  I fondly recall watching her teach geology to very young children in our campus-based program, Summer Laureate University for Youth. Kay can do anything and now she is sharing her insights through her new children’s book,” shared Dr. Ann Robinson, Director of the Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education and Kay’s former graduate advisor.

Kay has been the recipient of numerous honors over her teaching career with some notable ones being: Teacher of the Year, Meyer Endowment Award at Pulaski Academy, Heart at Work Award in Highland Park Independent School District, honoring Kay’s compassion for children, a Mickelson Exxon Mobile Teacher participant, and selected to take part in the Honeywell Educators Space Academy.

Kay has served in The Little Rock School District at Kramer, Forest Park, Fulbright, Carver, and she has also taught at Pulaski Academy. Kay currently teaches in the Highland Park School District in Dallas, Texas.

Kay gets to do her very favorite thing each day with students, and that is to share the joy of a book with them. Now she gets to share the joy of her own book, The Cousins are Coming!
