The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has been awarded a $2 million grant for its gifted education program.
The five-year grant announced Tuesday from the U.S. Department of Education is to the Jodie Mahony Center for Gifted Education at UALR
The grant was awarded through the Education Department’s Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program. The program emphasizes serving students who are traditionally underrepresented in gifted and talented programs — particularly the economically disadvantaged, those who are limited in English proficiency, and disabled students.
The Mahony Center will use the funding to identify and increase the numbers of underrepresented students served by gifted and talented programs in Arkansas.
