Alumni Scholarship Deadline: March 1
Department Scholarship Deadline: March 14
Each year, the Department of Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies awards two scholarships to outstanding students in Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies:
- The Lee Asbill Johnson Endowed Scholarship provides up to $1,000 per academic year. It may be used for any education-related expenses, including (but not limited to) tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Applicants must be full- or part-time students who are actively pursuing a BA in Philosophy or a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies/Liberal Arts at UALR. Preference will be given to junior- and senior-level students. Selection will be based on academic accomplishment (a 3.0 cumulative grade point average is required) though financial need may also be considered.
- The Annie L. Harrison Scholarship provides up to $3,000 per academic year and is to be used to provide financial assistance to students who have demonstrated superior scholastic achievement so that they can complete their college education at UALR. Students must be majors in Philosophy or Liberal Arts and have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
In addition, UALR awards two Owen W. Parker, Sr. and Merrily Parker Endowed Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 annually ($2,500 per semester). The funds may be used for any education related expense. These scholarships are renewable but recipients must reapply annually. Renewal applications will be approved automatically subject to the recipient’s continued eligibility and contingent upon the availability of funds. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher; both academic accomplishment and financial need will be considered.
The Parker scholarships are open to any student at UALR, but strong preference is given to philosophy or music majors. The application deadline for these scholarships is March 1, 2016.
