The Provost’s Office is happy to announce that it is partnering with the Vice Provost for Research Office to provide support to faculty this summer who are interested in writing grants to support their scholarly endeavors. As an R-2 institution, research plays a critical role in our identity. Research has been identified as one of the pillars of the institution and specifically as one of the goals in the new strategic plan. It is expected that this program will help engage more faculty in the pursuit of external funding to support research.
This program will provide a $5,000 stipend for faculty members to write grants to external funding agencies (3 faculty from each college and Bowen). One half of the stipend will be paid at the beginning of summer with the remaining one half to be paid upon successful submission of the grant. In addition to the stipend, this program will pair participating faculty with a faculty mentor who is experienced in grant writing. Regular meetings between participants and mentors will be expected throughout the summer
Participant Expectations:
- Make a good faith effort to develop a competitive proposal to a funding agency. This could include federal, state, or private funding sources.
- Meet regularly with the grant mentor. These meetings will ideally focus on the development of the proposal.
- Incorporate feedback from mentor into proposal.
- Complete a well developed proposal that is ready for submission by the end of summer.
- Submit the proposal to a funding agency. We understand that this could be later in the year or in the Spring of 2025. Upon submission, the remainder of the stipend will be provided.
