Howells Outstanding Graduating Seniors

The Department of Psychology is delighted to award Saiyeeda F. Hossain & Laura Ruiz Astorga the Marie Wilson Howells’ Graduating Senior Award for academic excellence. The faculty agreed that these two women instantiate the best that we hope for in our students.

The Marie Wilson Howell Outstanding Graduating Senior Award is a one-time stipend of $500 that is given to a graduating senior Psychology major each spring. The recipient is determined by the full-time Psychology faculty members. Criteria considered during the decision-making process are high overall GPA, high Psychology GPA, exemplary professional conduct, involvement in research activities, and involvement with departmental organizations.

Saiyeeda F. Hossain of Pine Bluff, is a double major in Sociology and Psychology. Saiyeeda received $2,750 to research “Personality and Depressive Disorder of College Students: A Focus on Undergraduate Students at UA Little Rock” with her faculty mentor Dr. Neveen Shafeek Amin in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.

Laura Ruiz Astorga of Madrid, is a double major in Psychology and International Studies. Laura is also a captain of the UA Little Rock Swimming & Diving team. She has gained professional experience from an internship at the Spanish Permanent Representation in the European Union for Development and Cooperation.
